Payer Mix

Payer mix is one of the most important factors in determining the financial viability of an ASC. A balanced mix of payers will provide stability in an environment in which reimbursement rates can and do change on a regular basis. Weighting the mix in a significant manner toward one payer can pose long-term stability risks.

Payer contracting is a critical process that can enhance a center’s financial performance and provide a solid foundation for the ASC. Contracting should be done only by those with extensive experience in ASC contracting and knowledge of the payer market.
